Mr and Mrs J. Guthrie, of Penrose, Auckland, are spending a holiday in Tauranga.

Dr. T. E. Ashley has been recommended by the Waihi Hospital Board to be appointed assistant medical superintendent. Dr. Ashley has been acting in that capacity for some months.

The appointment of Professor James Shelley, M..A. (Cambridge), of Canterbury University College, as director of broadcasting at an initial salary of £ISOO a year was, > announced officially last evening by the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, as Minister of Broadcasting. Professor Shelley will begin his duties on December 1. Mr A. J. Murdoch has been reelected chairman of the Dairy Board, which was re-constituted under the Primary Products Marketing Act recently passed by Parliament. Mr W. E. Hale has been appointed deputy-chairman.
