GERMAN POLICY

FOREIGN CRITICISM ATTITUDE TOWARDS PRESS PROTEST BY DR. GOEBBELS. Leipzig, May 19. The Minister of Propaganda, Dr. Goebhels, addressing a Congress of Jurists, protested against foreign criticism of German policy toward the press. “Germany has not abolished the freedom of the press,” said the Minister, “but press anarchy. What is called freedom of the press in liberal countries in reality is the worst kind of intellectual tryanny, because it is exercised anonymously” Continuing, Dr Gobbels stated that Herr Hitler preferred the “higher law of his nation” to the Versailles Treaty, which was "lawless in its origin.” The Nazis not only would rebuild Germany, but would give suffering Europe new life. Their aim was to place Europe on a better legal basis compatible with the life of all the nations.
