INNES CUP GAME CORINTHIANS V. VETERANS WIN FOR CORINTHIANS The Tauranga Hockey Association continued the limes Cup competition yesterday afternoon in ideal weather, when Corinthians met and defeated Veterans by five goals to two. Veterans were two men short and did well to keep down the scoring. The teams were; Corinthians. —J. Wintle, E. Kennedy, J. Trigg, Ross, R. Sutherland, H. Johanson, S. Johanson, K. Curtis, W. Norris, E. Fletcher, T. Donovan. Veterans. —P. Minifle, C. Roan, L. Bougen, A. Banks, T. Bone, J. Nash, A. Dinsdale, A. Bougen, T. Tierney. Corinthians attacked from the start until Roan cleared. Minifle, Nash, and L. Bougen dribbled through! Dinsdale accepted a pass in the circle, and just missed the net. Ross and Curtis replied-with a swift movement and Banks saved skilfully, Minifle trailed through and Dinsdale carried on, Fletcher checking. The Corinthians forwards combined and Wintle goaled: Corinthians, 1; Veterans, 0. Upon resuming Minifle dribbled through in the middle of the field and after evading several opponents gave a pass to Dinsdale, who was stopped by Fletcher. The Corinthians worked hack steadily and a strong attack was foiled by Banks hitting to touch. Kennedy made an opening; and sent to Curtis, who was blocked by Roan. A spectacular run by Minifle gained sixty yards and he reached the circle, taking a slanting shot, which went outside the goal post. Nash and L. Bougen held the play in the Corinthians’ quarter until H. Johansqn got in an excellent clearance shot and Kennedy carried on, Banks checking. A Bougen beat several of the opposing forwards and passed to Minifle, who was stopped at the circle by Fletcher. A fine solo run by Ross aided Corinthians and he manoeuvred to reach the circle, Banks clearing to touch. Smart stick work by Nash permitted the Veterans to penetrate the circle and a short pass to Minifle saw him equalise the scores —one all. The advantage now passed to Veterans and a combined movement by Nash and Minifle ended in the latter driving and missing the net by inches. Corinthians retaliated and made play lively in the circle, but infringed and Banks cleared to half-way from the resultant penalty. Corinthians pressed and a shot by Ross went outside the post. Curtis was conspicuous in a fast run down the northern flank and then centred, but the Corinthians vanguard over-rau the hall and Banks sent to touch. As soon as the second half opened the Corinthians forwards sprinted through and pressed until Banks cleared with a long sweeping shot. Wintle and Ross came back rapidly and the latter drove, but failed to find Hie net. Corinthians continued to hold the advantage and Ross found a weak link in the defence and goaled: Corinthians, 2; Veterans, 1. Following resumption Corinthians again gained the upper hand and Wintle scored: Corinthians, 3; Veterans, 1. Veterans rallied and Banks was given a shot from the circle, failing narrowly. The Corinthians were back again quickly in the Veterans’ territory and Ross was given an easy shot to goal; Corinthians, 4; Veterans, 1. The Veterans now attacked and a fine shot by Banks rose over the goal bar. One of the best runs of the day was made by L. Bougen who raced through, but was not supported. Veterans held the advantage and Minifle goaled: Corinthians, 4; Veterans, 2. One of the Veterans players had to retire and the team continued with only eight men. A pretty piece of single-handed play by Ross was finished off by finding the net. Veterans went on the attack but could not break the defence and the game ended: Corinthians, 5; Veterans, 2, Messrs Bruce Meikle and C. Randle were referees.

There is a a team of Indian residents in Christchurch will enter a team in the competitions of the Canterbury Hoclcey Association, according to statements at a meeting of the management committee. Mr P. Gay, a delegate of the Selwyn club, said that an Indian had approached the officials of the association, saying that there were enough Indians in the town to form a full team, and that they already had equipment for the game.
