ADVERTISING BOARD
REMOVAL TO ANOTHER SITE
Mr T. P. Kerridge, Manager for Tauranga Theatres Ltd., has advised the Borough Council that Mr Wratten, who had taken over the borough section on Cameron Road, had given the Company notice that the advertising board, erected when the Council was running pictures in the Town Hall, was to be removed. The permission of the Council was asked for the re-erection of the board on private property at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Cameron Road.
Cr Allely moved at last night’s meeting of the Council—That the request be granted.—Seconded by Cr McFarlane.
The Mayor, Mr Wilkinson, pointed out that a similar request from another applicant had been refused. He proposed an amendment—That the request be not granted. Cr Allely said the Council had disposed of certain advertising rights in connection with the lease of the Town Hall and an agreement had been made.
The Mayor then moved an amendment That the matter be referred to the Endowments Committee.—Cr Youngman seconded.
Cr lies said the Council should honour its agreement with Tauranga Theatres, Ltd.
Cr McFarlane thought the Council could deal with the matter. The Mayor said the Endowments Committee should look into the agreement. Several councillors concurred. The amendment to refer the matter to the Endowments Committee was carried and was then put as the substantive motion and carried.
