McKearney gave a bright display, but Spedding took a hot return, 34-3-19. Coyle took a beautiful catch behind to dismiss K. Budd, who had played a steady to the crease was short but bright ;2 t =o rland again bein & the bowler, 47-5-8. Capon was run out quickly and the board read 47 for 6 wickets. Cairns and B. Budd raised the half century. Both batsmen faced the bowling confidently, specializing in pull shots and-getting the tfttal into the 60’s. Beale fooled Cairns with a full toss and the figures were, 62f7-9. Budd soon followed, Beale bowling him also, 64-8-9. Mlnifle and Spratt now gave a nice display, 21 runs being added before Minifie was stumped, 85-9-8. Spratt imitated Minifie with the first ball after the afternoon, adjournment and closed the innings, 87-10-12. Sutherland faced B. Budd in opening Rotorua’s second innings, but Cairns held a nice catch, 4-1-4. Mulligan was dismissed l.b.w. without further addition to the score, 4-2-0. Several chances were missed in the .field oft Mason. Moorhead erentually bowled Mason, 21-3-8. In his next over Moorhead claimed Spedding at 25-4-5. Next ball Coyle was out 1.b.w., 25-5-0. Budd got Alexander immediately with the total still the same, 25-6-5. McGill, filling the breach, found Budd difficult and played all over a good one, 33-7-3. Ewart quickened the scoring, he and Beale bringing the total to 55 before Curtis bowled Beale, 55-8-12. Andrews was in difficulties with McKqarney’s slows, being caught behind, 59-9-2. , Godsalve did not score, cocking one up for Capon to hold, 63-10-0. Ewart carried his bat for 14. Tauranga needed 38 for an outright victory and K. Budd went quickly in attempting t to hit out, 3-1-2. Brian followed him closely, being stumped, 4-2-1. Curtis and McKearney raised double figures, but McKearney stepped in front to McGill, 14-3-9. Barry Budd was bowled without scoring, 19-4-0. The next ball spelt Spratfs downfall, Sutherland claiming his wicket also, 19-5-0. Curtis now. opened out, but Godsalve took a high one in the long field, 19-6-5. Capon and Cairns now cracked on the pace, playing some very nice leg shots. They had no difficulty in getting the requisite runs, Cairns being 9 and Capon 11, the bbard reading, 38-6-5, and Tauranga winning by 4 wickets. Scores were as follows: ROTORUA.
