N.Z. BUTTER
READY SALE IN ENGLAND, Writing to his brother. Mr A. E. Cooke, of Otorohanga, Mr 0. H. Cooke, of Cairncross,.Gloucestershire, England, gives some interesting information on the sales of New Zealand produce in the Old Country. At the local co-operative store, where the writer is employed, and thus knows what he is selling, he says they sell three tons of New Zealand butter a month. The current price is 10 Jd per pound retail, but a few weeks ago it was 8 id, and if sometimes rises to Is per pound. New Zealand cheese fetches 7d per pound and apples 5d to 6d. • Ninety per cent of their salea are Empire products, and the people ask for New Zealand butter and cheese.
, The writer adds that he cannot understand the statement made that New Zealand produce is not wanted at Horae. This would not be said if the stock of New Zealand cheese at Galrncross could ’be steen. Other shops were doing the same as they were and selling New Zealand produce and it was all of first-class quality and they never got any complaints. Of course, at certain times of the year (as in the spring, when Home production increases) they did not sell so much New-Zealand butter, but they sell New Zealand cheese all the year round.
