THE YO-YO AND THE RAIN
AM) THE HOLE IN THE CAR. - No more may the Yo-Yo delight the youth of Damascus. The Ulema have denounced it, the Prime Minister has prohibited it; the police are hot on its trail. ■ The reason for, all this, turmoil is that the Ulema, who are the religious leaders of Syria, suspect the machinations of the Yo-Yo in upsetting the rainfall!. In Syria as elsewhere the rain comes down while the Yo-Yo (when in the hands of youth) flies up. Prayers have been said for rain, bat we hear that the rain ha« refused to fall on the Syrian fields while the Yo-Yo goes tip. Can it be that the rain when half-way down is influenced by the movements of the Yo-Yo to go up again? The Ulema thinks so. Hence their protests to the Prime) Minister and the confiscation of the) toy. Those fond and foolish persons rrho hang dolle in their motor-cars lo keep off accidents can now recognise the Syrian Ulema as men and brothers.
