j. QUESTION OP ADMISSION FEE.

A letter was read at last night's meeting of the Borough Council from Mr H. Bradney Williams, Hon, Secretary of the Aero and Gliding. Club, stating that his Club was endeariming to arrange with the Auckland Aero Club' to visit Tauranga on April 26, with a number of machine* to give an aerial display. In order to cover the expenses entailed 11 was essential that there should be a “gate,’’ and for that purpose it would I* necessary to close access to the Estuary by way of Hamilton Street West, Wharf Street West, Sprit? Street West, Williams Street West, Elizabeth Street West (below Selim Street), and First, Second, Third and Fourth Avenues West, except on payment of an admission fee of one shilling. -

Mr Williams added: “There at be no question that displays of thi* nature are of great interest to fe public, and I am confident that com* cillers will appreciate that it be quite Impossible for my Club finance them unless permitted » charge for admission, the same« other sports bodies do on licit grounds. I trust, therefore, tW your Council will see its way 11 grant my Club the necessary permission to close the streets specified » the 26th Inst." Cr Daines moved —That the » quest be granted.—Cr Norris seconded. Cr Newsham objected to thP w* ing of so many streets and doom whether the Council had the po* er do so. .I, The motion was carried on casting vote of the Mayor, the * being: _ Ayes—The Mayor and Crs.
