JOYCE’S ROAD

PETITION TO COUNTY COUNCTU. At the meeting of the Tauranga County Council yesterday a petition signed by Messrs A. Tutchen and ten other ratepayers of the Parish of Te Papa, was read requesting the Council to form the unfinished portion of the gazetted road known as Joyce’s Road, thus giving access to the petitioners’ properties. It was also stated; “This unformed road is known to members of the Council, who will realise the inconvenience caused by having to make a circuitous journey, involving an extra three and a-half miles travelling to our properties. At present, we are using Mr W. Merrick’s private road, by courtesy, which may be closed to us at any time. Even when allowed to use this road vehicles cannot be taken to our sections, nor can stock be driven through.” Mr Benham estimated the cost of the work at about £SOO, and pointed out that the road line would have to be deviated from the present line. It was decided to reply that if the petitioners would meet the cost of survey, legalisation and fencing, the Council would be prepared to apply for the work to he done by relief labour.
