STOCK MARKET.
PRICES
There were small yardings of most classes of stock at'the Westfield, fat stock sale oh Wednesday. This was probably due to the effect of the sharp drop In values at the previous week’s sale. Owing; to the short supply there was an improved general demand, and the tone of the market was firmer. Values- over all were higher. The market has not shown the strength usually associated with October offerings, due principally to the continued, large numbers coming forward and the more restricted demand. Beef was in good demand and the market fully recovered from the decline of last week. Values all round were higher by from 15s to £1 a head. Extrfi choice ox sold up to 21s per 1001 b., compared with 19s last week and 22s in the previous week. Cow and heifer beef was also in better request and higher rates were recorded. . , Values for sheep also improved owing to a smaller yarding. Some good quality Hues were offered and a keen demand was maintained. Prices ranged about Is to 2s a head above those of last week. Spring lambs were yarded in larger numbers and the market was easier, values receding by 3s to 4s a head. A good demand was maintained for calves, which were penned in smaller numbers. Good quality vealers were somewhat scarce and they sold readily at advanced rates. Runners, however, were not in such good request. There was a fairly heavy yarding of pigs, which met with a good average demand. Baconers eased slightly in value, with the exception of a few extra quality offerings. The demand for store pigs was better .and late rates were fully maintained.
