The Firm was known as Browne & | i * Carter and traded as such until after the outbreak of war. The partnership was dissolved in 1914, Mr Browne § joining his brothers in the Firm of E. C. Browne & Co., Ltd., Auckland. Mr Carter carried on the Tauranga busi--5 * ness as Carter & Co., until 1918. He being called up in the two-children division, it was necessary to look for a § partner or sell out. Mr Gibberd joined the Firm and it now became known as Carter-Gibberd Co. from 1918 to | § 1925. During this period the Tailoring Business of J. Bruns was purchased and a Tailoring Department added. 3 In 1926 Mr Gibberd went to Stratford and started a boot business for himself and the Carter-Gibberd Co. was J formed into a Registered Company and called the Carter Clothing Co., Ltd. A lease being secured in the New i 8 Bank Chambers Building in Wharf Street in 1929, the stock was transfered and there the Business is now carried g on. The Firm has been through some good times and some bad times this last 21 years. The Maori Epidemic, § World War, influenza scourge, the boom and now it has weathered the depression.
