GOLF.

Local players have been much occupied during the past month with the various competitions in progress. A four-ball match last week was won by Matheson and Dykes with a splendid card of 6 up, while other good cards returned were those by Bateman and Titterton, 3 up, and Bryan and Butts 2 up. The Senior and Junior Handicap tournaments are now completed with well-merited wins for Steedman in the senior and Bateman in the junior.

The semi-final and' final results were:— Senior; Semi-finals, Heald beat Davies 1 up. Steedman beat Hewett 3-2; final, Steedman beat Heald 3 up and 2. Junior; Semifinals, Bateman beat Brisco 7-6, (Hiding beat Tanner 6-5; final, Bateman beat Olding 3 up and 2. Both Senior and Junior Championship events are nearing completion, the progress results to date being:—

Senior. —First Round: D. M. Fell beat Hay, Hamilton beat Titterton, Steedman beat Phelan, Snodgrass beat Mollgaard, Matheson beat L. Simmonds, Bryan beat Dykes, Goulding beat Roche, Bradmore beat Rodgers. Second round; Hamilton beat Fell 1 up, Snodgrass heat Steedman 4-3, Matheson beat Bryan 1 up, Bradmore beat Goulding 2-1. Semi-final: Hamilton beat Snodgrass 4-3. Great interest now attaches to the meeting in the other, semi-final between Matheson and Bradmore to decide which will play the final with Hamilton. Junior.—First Round: Watkinson beat Tanner, Hanna beat Maloney, Taylor beat Mirrielees, Heald beat Maunsell, Bateman beat Bartlett, Guinness beat Woods, Brisco beat G. Mayfield. Second round: Fell beat Watkinson, Hanna beat - Taylor, Bateman beat Heald. Semi-final: Fell beat Hanna, 4-2. Keen interest and rivalry is being shown in the present match between the ladies and the men, and the prospects are that the tally at the conclusion on Saturday will be very even.

Golfing conditions are at their best just now and all members are regretting the approaching close of the season. ,
