TOURIST TRAFFIC

A FRENCH SCHEME. M. Gaston Gpurdeau, the new Un-der-Secretary of State for Tourist Traffic in France, has been preparing a comprehensive plan for encouraging travel. This follow’s three main lines. First, it is intended.to bring about a great improvement in the condition of road traffic by the creation of new motor roads and the improvement of those already in existence. A second feature of the scheme is that efforts should be made to attract tourists of moderate means. With this end in view the Under-Sec-retary is submitting to railway and shipping companies suggestions for making third-class travel as cheap and as comfortable as possible. Such reforms would include the provision on all French long-distance trains of third-class sleeping apartments. The third main feature of the programme is a proposal for the extension of tours at an inclusive fee.
