SMALL FARM PLAN

WHAT GOVERNMENT EXPECTS. The matter of the section of Kaiparoro acquired by the Government under the Small Farm Plan, was referred to at a meeting of the Small Farm Advisory Committee functioning in the Mauriceville county (says a Masterton message). It was unanimously decided after discussion that the area was suitable for a small holding. It was stressed that the Government did not expect that the occupants of these sections would make a living from the ten acres. Settlers would have a cheap home for a sum not exceeding 10s a week and would be able to produce a good part of their living off the section. While they were establishing themselves a sustenance allowance of £1 a would be granted and their rent would be remitted. They would have the opportunity of casual and seasonal work in their districts and of improving their sections.
