Attempt to Shoot Condemned Man. FEAR OF DEVIL’S ISLAND. Paris, April 4 “I wanted to kill my husband to prevent him being sent io Devil’s Island,” moaned Georgette, the pretty blonde wife of Henri Charriere. when the police seized her after she had fired five shots a! her husband through the bars at Frenos prison. Henri was sentenced to life imprisonment for a murder which Georgett protests that she committed. They were allowed to exchange a last farewell through the bars. Georgette whippet! out a revolver from her handbag, intending to shoot her husband and then herself. All the shots missed and Georgette was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.
