OVERDUE INTEREST.
THAMES BOROUGH'S POSITION. Thames. Oct. Hi The Thames Borough Council met on Wednesday evening. Nothing relating to outstanding payments of interest due to debenture-holders was discussed in open council, hut in the repori of the finance; committee the following appeared: “That the following reply he given to imiuiries by debenture-holders with regard to the payment of (mistanding interest: That the borough is a present in negotiation with (he (lovorume.ul for assistance ami is awaiting the final result of such negotiations. Debenture-holders will he advised at the earliest possible date of (he result, when it is hoped, that all amounts due to debenture holders will he met.”
One councillor asked the Mayor how matters were proceeding. The Mayor replied that he hud visited Wellington last week and had seen Mr Collins, of the Audit Department. who was writing n report, also Mr Snell; chairman of the investigation committee, lie. understood (he former’s report was now with (lie Prime Minister, who would soon call a meeting lo discuss it. The council would no doubt he asked to attend (hat meeting, but they must, remember that (he council had placed itself in flic committee’s hands, and the next steps would he taken by the committee.
