Basaltic Rock at Papamoa.
PETROL PUMP AT TK PUNA. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tauranga County Council was held in the Coronation Hall yesterday. Present: Councillors W. F. Sinclair (Chairman), C. E. S. Gane, J. M. Darragh, C. Lally, A. B. Morton, J. L. Vercoe, S. H. MacDougall and G. H. Mends. Mttking of Ry-lijnvs. The formal motion in regard to confirming the previous resolution, making and ordaining by-laws for the county, was moved by Cr Gane, seconded by Cr MacDougall and carried. Katikati Loan. The Chairman moved—That application be made to the Local Government Loans Board for sanction of the proposed loan for Katikati Riding.—Seconded by Cr Gane and carried. Cent re Lines on Roads. Mr H. Walkinson, District Engineer of the Public Works Department, forwarded circular, as received by tile Main Highways Board, in reference to the marking of centre lines on road surfaces. The circular stated that I lie Board is prepared to subsidise the marking of black pavements on main highways with white lines, on the basis of £2 for £l. the Board's share of the cost of the work to be a charge against the Main Highways Revenue Fund. The Chairman moved—That the Council approve of the proposal.— Seconded by Cr Darragh and carried. Timber “Fifths.” A proposal for the expenditure of 10s, “fifths’’ of timber receipts from State Forest No. 90, Block X, Aongatete, was forwarded by the Conservator of Forests. The expenditure was recommended on the maintenance of road from the southern end of the reserve to To Aroha. Inspector of Noxious Weeds. Tile Director-General of the De partment of Agriculture, Wellington, forwarded advice of the appointment of Mr T. F. Connor as an inspector for the Tauranga County under the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928. Slaughterhouse Licenses, Mr J. J. Dodd, Omokoroa, forwarded application for the renewal of slaughterhouse license. It was decided to recommend the application to the Department The. Department of Agriculture, Wellington, forwarded renewal of slaughterhouse licenses, duly approved by the Minister for issue to Messrs Johnston Bros., Katikati; Mr H. E. Butcher, Te Puke: and Mr A H. Washer, Te Puke. It was agreed that the Clerk sign the documents. Quarry at Papamoa. Mr Colin McNaughton, Papamoa, wrote offering terms relative to allow ing metal to be taken from the outcrop of basaltic rock on his property adjoining the county quarry reserve, at Papamoa. He asked for payment of royalty at the rate of sixpence per cubic yard, also that fences that may be moved be re-erected. He also offered £1 10s per annum for the grazing rights of the balance of the quarry reserve not icqulred by the Council.
The Chairman pointed out that a survey was necessary. He moved— That steps be taken to acquire the quarry under the Public Works Act. —Seconded by Cr Yercoe. Cr Morton said that Mr W. Ferguson claimed that metal was on his property. Cr Lally suggested that Mr McNaughton be offered three pence per yard for the metal. The motion was carried. A Katikati By-Road.
Messrs G. B. Henry, G. Cooper and S. Hedley, Katikati, forwarded a joint communication, drawing attention to the bad state of the road which runs past their properties, and leads on to the main road by the saleyards. They suggested that relief workers be employed. A light bridge was needed across the stream and a culvert required renewing. The Chairman moved —That _ the matter be referred to the engineer and the mover with power to act. — Seconded by Cr Darragh and carried. Access at Makctu. Mr Arnold T. Harris, Maketu, wrote stating there is still no access to his property. Tawhao No. 10. ’The road is pegged off and is easy of formation. He suggested that a relief gang be placed on the road, which would give access to other properties. Mr Beuham reported that the matter was receiving attention. Bell’s Koacl. Mr W. H. Owen, Manager of the United Tobacco Corporation T'auranga, Ltd., wrote as follows: “The above company have started operations on their property in the Bell Estate Block at Papamoa. There will be a lot of haulage along the road leading to the Company’s shed. Unless a portion of the road is metalled I am afraid it will not stand up to the wear, but will cut through. I would be greatly obliged if your Council could see its way to metal with ‘pumice .metal,’ a distance or, approximately, seven chains of this road, from the bridge to the shed. A sketch plan of the locality was forwarded. Cr Morton stated that Mr o*’en had called upon him, and said if the wheel tracks were pumiced, the necessary carting could be carried on. He moved—That the work be done. The motion was seconded by or Lally and carried.
Culvert and Pilling Required. Mr L. Anderson. Omokoroa, ■wrote stating he wishes tc occupy sec.ion 16*4, Apata Parish, recently purchased, and asked the Council to put in a culvert and filling to give access The matter was referred to tne Chairman and engineer, with power to act
Kauri Point Road

Koad at Otamarakau. Mr F W. Schreiber, Otamarakao. wrote urging that repairs be cabled out to the road to his propeit.. Cr MacDougall moved —Thai the mut er be referred to the engmeer with power to act.— Seconded bj Ci Mends and carried.
Clearing of Weeds
Miss E. Broome wrote asking permission for N. Anderson, of C,opl.
to erect a. temporary fence on Section 323. Oropi, for thq purpose of clearing road frontage of gorse and other noxious weeds. It was decided to refer the matter to Cr Darragh and the engineer, with to act. Omokoroa Beach.
Mr C. E. Crapp, Omokoroa, wrote relative to access to Omokoroa Beach. He stated he is willing to give the necessary land for the formation of the road piovided the road does not encroach on his grass lands. The engineer reported that he had given the matter attention. Petrol Pump. Miss M. Covell wrote applying for a permit to erect a petrol pump on the roadside in -front of her shop situated at Te Puna. Cr Gnne said the pump would be a convenience. He moved- —That the request be granted, subject to the pump being erected to the satisfaction of the engineer.—Seconded by Cr Darragh. and carried. Appreciation. Mr B C. Robbins, Hon. Secretary of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, forwarded copy of resolution expressing the appreciation of the Chamber of the consideration which had been given io the users of the road whilst the work has been in progress on the Taurauiga-Te Puke Road.
