COUNTY FINANCE.

TREASURER’S REPORT. The following financial report was presented by the Treasurer, Mr H. Lewis, to yesterday’s meeting of the Tauranga County Council; The balances of the several accounts at the Bank stand as follows: £ s. d. Fund Account, Dr., 2024 18 8 Loans Account, Cr., 1223 6 3 Bridge Fund Ac., Cr., 140 11 11 £3343 11s lid, highways subsidy, was received this day." Acounts before the meeting amount to £5364 14s 2d, summarised as follows: Fund Acount, £3877 16s lid; Loans Account, £OB4 7s Id; and £502 10s 2d, transfer to plant and machinery. A certain amount of rates arrears are stil looming forward in response to the isue of reminders. Further in respect to the Council’s recent support of the resolution sent in by another County Council regarding tiie Crown being made liable for rates, I have to report receipt of a notice of transfer of a section of 880 acres. During the last three years the Council had to write off three years' rates on the property being abandoned. It was re-leased and again abandoned. Report has it that it is now held under renewable lease to another tenant and it appears unlikely that any outstanding rates will be paid. The Chairman referred to the satisfactory financial position and moved —That the report be adopted. The motion was seconded by Cr Darragh and carried.

It was stated that Ihe property of S.so acres is in the Te Puke district.
