Mr and Mrs P, Stevens, of “Royston,” Radnor Street, Hamilton, arc staying with Mr and Mrs F .A. Stevens, “Pontac,” the Camp, Tauranga. Miss Molly Valder, of Tauranga, has been staying with, her parents, “Edingthorpc,” River Road, Claudclands. Mr F. H .Wilkie, President of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, has been appointed a vicc-Presidem of the New Zealand Rugby Union. The Right Rev. George Budd, Moderator of the General Assembly, will perform the official opening ceremony in connection with St Andrew’s Hall, Te Puke, on Saturday next. Second-Lieutenants L. W. f Grieve and E. B. S. Smith have been posted to the Second C Battalion of the Hauraki Regiment. The lion. J. Stopford, a Minister m the last Labour Cabinet in Queensland is visiting Auckland. Mrs T. B. Insol 1, sister of Mr Dive, of Tauranga, is leaving Hamilton in May to spend several weeks in Sydney. Mrs Gibbs, of Tauranga, is staying at “Abbotsford,” Anglcsea Street, Hamilton. Miss Stevens, of Hamilton, is on a holiday visit to Auckland. The Rev. Dr. J. T. Pinfold, secretary of the Wellington Ministers’ Association, will leave Wellington on May 26 by the Kangitiki for a visit to England, Ireland, and the Continent. He will be away for about six months. While in London he hopes to publish a book recording his experiences during fifty years in Xew Zealand. A London cable announces the death of Mr Robert Bridges the Poet Laureate. Mr R. B. Shearman has returned from a visit to Auckland and Waikato... An important scholastic award has been won by a Hamilton student' at the Otago University, Miss Joan Stevens having qualified for the Tinline Scholarship, which is awarded by the University of New Zealand on the results of the English papers in the final degree examination. Mr R. McVcagh, of Auckland, left by the Aorangi on Monday on a seven months’ tour to England and the Continent Mr D. Finlayson, who has been on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Matamata for some years, has been transferred to Auckland. “The Citizen,” published in Ottawa, Canada, announces that among those who had the honour of being' invited to lunch at Government House, on Match 25, was Miss_ Winifred Purnell, the well-known pianiste.
The Hon. A. J. StafTworthy, Minister of Health left Auckland for Wellington by train last night.
