THAMES FLATS.

A NOVEL SUGGESTION, A suggestion that the mud on the Thames flats might be used as a fertilizer was made to the Thames Harbour Board on Wednesday. In making the suggestion a Mangatarata settler, referring to the mud. said; “I suggest that you have it tested for its value as a fertilizer, and if it is lacking in anything that promotes the growth of pastures, add the missing ingredients, and you have, a valuable product and a cheap harbour. If the scheme is any good I will show you a cheap method of reclaiming it.” The chairman, Mr H. Lowe, said the suggestion might be a good one, and the board should have the mud tested at the School of Mines. It was decided to leave the question to the Local Committee to deal with.
