Joint Traflie Inspector. ».r 11. Watkinson, District Engineer of the Public Works Department, forwarded copy of a letter received from the Opotlki County Council with reference to the appointment ot a joint traffic inspector. Mr Watkinson asked if the Tauranga County Council desires to have the matter reconqidered. The Opotiki County Council suggested that in view of the Main Highways Board having decided to pay subsidy not exceeding £1 tor £1 on the salaries of joint tralfic inspectors, the appointment of a joint tralhc msnector for the counties within the No. 3 District Highways Councils area be reconsidered. Cr MacDougall moved —That the matter of replying be left in the hands of the Chairman. —beconded b> Cr Bailey and carried. Te Puke Riding' Roans. Mr H. Watkinson, District Engineer of the Public Works Department, wrote asking for the Council's proposals for No. 1 Road (Te Puke). Rocky Cutting. Olaimatua, and Ohaui Roads. He added: “If these are satisfactory, then I will recommend that the money be transferred as asked for by you. and 1 have no doubt that the Minister will agree. The other two works, being smallei ones, can follow later.” . Mr Lewis (county clerk) explained that the other two works referred to were Bell’s Road and Waterfront Cr Morton moved —That the necessary plans be forwarded by the county engineer,—Seconded by Cr Lally and carried. Ongaonga Road. Messrs Sharp, Tudhope and Wilson, solicitors, forwarded plans and memorial In connection with Ongaonga Road to bo signed by two members of the Council and the Chairman. The formal motion authorising signature of the documents was moved by Cr Bailey, seconded by Cr Lane, and carried. Subdivisional Plant Messrs Sharp, Tudhope and Wilson forwarded subdivisional plan of Ailotmcnt 5 2 and Part 52, Town of Waterford, owned by Mr \\. J. Liay. Cr Gane moved —That the plan be approved. —Seconded by Cr Morton and carried. Proposed Subdivision. Mr R. T. Goulding forwarded plans ot proposed subdivision of Part of Tongaparaoa No. 2 for the Council s consideration. The areas comprise one acre each. The owner Is Mr J. G. Green, and the laud is in the Hairini district. . Cr Morton moved—-That the subdivision be approved.—Seconded by Cr Lally and carried. Interest on Overdraft. The Manager of the Bank of New Zealand. Tauranga, advised that the rate of interest to be charged on the Council’s overdraft, as from 1* cbiiutiy 1, is seven per cent. A Te Puke Byroad. Mr A. W. Abbott. Te Puke, wrote regarding the road to his propeity branching off the main road at the northern end of the Long Swamp. He said the road is in bad condition, and ho lias spent about £3O on it. lie asked the Council to put the grader on the side-cuttiiiK portion and to spread a thin layer of pumice on (lie portion across the swamp. Cr Morton stated that Mr Abbott had carried out work on (he load and was a largo ratepayer. Cr Darragh moved —That the matter be referred to (he Te Puke councillors and the engineer with power to act. —Seconded by Cr MacDougall and carried. Taiiriko Settlement Bond. Mr J. T. Belli, Tauriko. in a letter relative to the Tauriko Bead, stated that there will be four settlers above him and be wants the road from Section 19 4 to Section 196 made, as they have to go through his property now. It was decided to reply to the effect that the Council had no funds for fencing the road line, ns desired by a property owner in the locality. Trees «>u Bond. The question of disposing of wattle trees on the Te Puna Road was introduced and deferred till the next meeting of the Council. Tc Puna By-roads. Mr C. O. Bayly, Apata Settlement, wrote stating he had been asked by the settlers to point out that tenders recently called for metalling by-roads In Te Puna Riding specify only sixtyeight chains on Apata Koad._ The loan proposal was to borrow £SOO for each by-road and metal one mile. This is what was voted for and the settlers asked that the proposal be carried out as near as possible. The Clerk (Mr Lewis) stated that he had explained the matter to Mr Bayley, and advised him that the sum of £SOO and the subsidy would be expended on the roads indicated. The letter was received. Width of Sections. The question of lixing the frontages ot building sections at Mount Maunganui was raised, and it was stated that this could only be done by framing a liv-law. It was stated that the Harbour Board ‘was subdividing camping sites with narrow frontages and long depths. No action was taken. Fencing of n Bond. Mr E. Beechy, Hawera. wrote intimating that he is purchasing from the Otamarakau Dairy Land Company, Ltd., an area of 427 acres in the Otamarakau Valley, and inquired info tim question of fencing the roadway. Cr MacDougall moved—That the matter be referred to the Clerk for investigation.--—Seconded By Cr Barra gh and curried.
