TARANAKI FARMERS.
TOUR OF BAY Ol PLENTY, The following letter from the South Taranaki Fanners - Union.provincial Seciet.ny. addressccl to Mr F. Prideaux, has been handed to the \\ hakatane Chamber of Commerce:— "•The Executive desires to auauge with the New Zealand Railway Depot t meal foi a touring party of approximately 170 persons to visit some other district about the middle of May next. You may have noticed from the newspapers that a vcw successful and educational tour was made of the South Island by a party fiom this district last Junes The Bay of Plenty district ha* been suggested for this year's trip, but it is felt that the accommodation requirements for the party would make it very difficult to deal with such a number in your district. The usual arrangement is for a special train to be engaged and the members of the party pay (heir own board at hotels, and any car trips or other entertainment is provided at the different places by the F armors Union ’n 0 op< lat ton wifh other local bodies. In discussing the. proposed tour of your district with Mr Pringle, Business Agent for the New Zealand Railways, it was thought that if a special train were to run to the railhead at Tanealua, motor buses could be arranged t ii.-o a portion of the party to Whakatane and the balance in excess of those who could be accomodated at Taneatua could be taken to Opotiki. The whole tour would occupy approximately 10 to 14 days and it is suggested that about 4 to 5 days could be profitably spent in your immediate district. It is intended to draw the proposed itinerary to include stops at Tauranga, Rotorua, and Hamilton. Have vou any Chamber of Commerce or Fanners’ Union that could deal with tin’s matter 1 would appreciate any suggestions that you may have to offer and would' thank you for an early reply.” Mi; j. M. Hobin, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce’ ,in acknowledging receipt of the letter, informed the secretary of the South Taranaki Farmers’ Union that a .meeting of the executive of the Chamber of Commerce would be held to deal with the matter. The letter was brought before the executive of the Chamber on Friday last, when it was decided to invite representatives of the local branches of the Fanners’ Union and the Taneatua Progress League to meet the executive of the Chamber for the purpose of considering ways and means of entertaining the party of Taranaki farmers daring their stay in this district.
