MARKETING PRODUCE.
NEGOTIATIONS IX LONDON. (Per Press Association.! Canberra, Feb. 7 Great importance is attached to the marketing negotiations now proceeding in London between Mr J. E. Fenton, Australian Minister of Customs, and Mr Philip Snowden, Chancellor of the Exchequer. The basis of the plan is Government control. The fact that LabourG overnments are now in power in England and Australia is regarded as a fine opportunity to apply some of the doctrines of the Labour movement for public control and marketing of produce. The aim is to ensure higher prices for Australian produce aud lower prices for British consumers by reducing the number of the middlemen, and securing a substantial decrease in handling costs.
It is proposed that the British Government should establish wholesale and retail agencies to dispose of Dominion produce—meat, fruit, butter, and cheese.
