WORK COMMENCES TUESDAY.

Chrislchurch, Fell, 0 • Definite arrangements for construction work at Parnassus, the southern end of the South Island Main Trunk railway, to begin on Tuesday next, have been made hy the Public Works Department. Twenty-live married men are being selected to-day lo proceed to Parnassus on Monday and they will he followed by a further batch of 115 married men on Wednesday. An official aniimi m enieiit (o this effect was made this morning hy Mr F. Langbeing, district engineer for the Public Works Department, just before he left Christchurch for Parnassus to make arrangements for the accommodation of the men. No information is available as to the number of men that will lie employed on the line when the work is properly under way.
