I'- Macmillan, M.P., returned last night from Tancatua. Mi‘ and Mrs Geo Read and family, of Tc Poi, are staying in Taurauga. Mrs G. Read of Hamilton, is spending a holiday' in I auranga. Mr E. J. D. Patterson has been appointed headteacher of the Mount Maunganui school. Mr A. J. Mirrielees and parly re- > turned last night from a motoring ; trip which covered both the North ; and South Islands. They travelled | 4600 miles and spent a very enjoy- j able time. I Teaching appointments made by j the Auckland Education Board yesterday include; Mr E. P. Baty, Kai- [ mni No. 1 School; Miss D. C- Whiting, Howick; and Miss N. M. I' enn, Taneatua.' The Rt. Hun. J. G-i Coates, Loader of the Opposition, arrived m Auckland from Wellington yesterday, and leaves; for his home at Matakohc today. The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fcfgusson, and Lady Alice P ergusson will leave for England by the Ra»g>tata, which is due to sail from Wellington on Saturday at 4, IMn. Captain Orr Ewing will accompany them. Mr T. C. Mullious, of the firm of Messrs Mullious and Sholto Smith, of Auckland, is on a short visit to j Tauranga. Mr Mr H. Walkinson, District Engineer of the Public Works partment, who accompanied the Hon. P. A. de la Perrcllc on his visit to the , Rotorua district, ha;? returned to Tauranga* Captain and Mrs Dorling arrived from Auckland last night to spend a holiday with Mr and Mrs J- G. Green. Mr W. E. Barnard, M.P. for Napier, has been visiting friends in ie Puke. Mr and Mrg Harry Skcllern and family (Cambridge), Mr and Mrs Greer Spence (Matamata) and Mr A C. Wilson (Thames) have lately returned to their respective homes from a visit to friends at Omokoroa. Mass Mirrielees, who been on a motoring trip through New Zealand, has rejoined the leaching stan of the Wanganui Girls’ College. Mr Chas. Turner, and Mr Geo IF Mends are announced as candidates for the vacant scat for the Makelu Riding on the Tauranga County Council. A Rotorua message of yesterday says Sir Joseph Ward is greatly benefiting by treatment there. He i' bright and cheerful,, and is in constant touch with Wellington by telephone. Mr S. Gibbins, a principal of the firm of Messrs Browne, Jackson ant Company, cotton manufacturers, ot Manchester is visiting Auckland. The Rev. F- A. Thompson has Iwicn appointed moderator ot the Auckland Presbytery for the ensuing six months. Mr P. G. Lewis, headmaster of the Cambridge District High School who has been appointed an inspect under the Education Dcpartinen , will take up his residence at Napier in April. Commissioner Hugh Whatmove. who has been in charge 06 the ..a - valion Army’s territory in Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania, retiring. He is unable to name his successor. Mr M. E. Ward has been appointed to the secretaryshipi of the Maungakiekie Golf Club. The position became vacant some little time ago, as a result of the then secretary, i- 1 Sloan Moipeth, taking up a sinulai appointment in Australia. Mr H. J.
