HELP FOR MINERS
ONE MINE REOPENED. London, March 1. “How the Prince of Wales helped Mr Wales’’ was the headline of a story concerning Ernest Wales, of Durham, who together with 100 miners from the l distressed districts, is working on a new drainage system in Hyde Park. During his recent tour the Prince chatted with Ernest Wales, who had had no work for five vears and he also saw his wife and three children. . Wales says: “I asked the Prince outright for a job. His secretary took my name to a Labour Exchange, which sent me and 20 other miners our bares to London for three months’ work at 49s a week. \) r o would still have been on the dole but for the Prince.” One hundred miners sang Welsh hymns a> they resumed work at lilacngwnfi mine, which was reopened after two years. The women and children have suffered great privations. They marched with the men and joined in the singing. _
