WINTER EXHIBITION AND CARNIVAL
THREE candidates FOR KING CARNIVAL. CAMPAIGNS TO COMMENCE IMMEDIATELY. At a meeting of the Carnival Committee held last night arrangements in connection with the forthcoming Winter Exhibition ami Carnival were carried forward. The programme suggested to date, and which is to he submitted to an early meeting of the Executive Committee, is as follows; — Wednesday. Two processions, one in the afternoon ami one at night. The evening one is for pedestrians only. Thursday will be left entirely free. Friday will be devoted to the children. There will be processions and an impromptu sports meeting for them In the Exhibition grounds. A Committee consisting of Messrs J. Neil J. Thompson and W. S. Harris was set up to make arrangements for the children’s day. Saturday is being set apart as THE day of the carnival. It is proposed that arrangements lie made with the shopkeepers to close their 'lousinesses at 3.30 on Saturday. If this is possible then the crowning of the King will take place on the Exhibition grounds following a procession and perhaps an hour’s entertainment on the Strand. King Carnival. It was decided at a previous meeting that a King Carnival be held and ( that three candidates be nominated, one by the farmers, one by the business men and one by the local sports bodies. The following are the three candidates: FARMERS; MR F. W., KEAM. Colours to bo w-hite. BUSINESSMEN; MR S. G. WILLCOCK. Colours to ho red. Secretary, Mr A. J. Hobsou. SPOUTS: MR W. TURNER. Colours to be blue.. The tickets for the campaign will lie printed and will he sold at Sd each each ticket registering a vote for the candidate carrying the colour of the ticket.
