TANEATUA RAILWAY

POVERTY BAY USERS. Although Poverty Bay has no railway connection with the main portion of the system, parts of the district are aj ready making use of the East Coast Main Trunk line, which has been converging on this area of the coast from both north and south (says the Poverty Bay* Herald). It was announced last week that Gisborne sheep for certain parts of the Waikato will be railed from Tanea. tua, while still further use has been made of the line extending towards this district from the south. It has been mentioned previously that] wo.>l from the Wairoa end of Poverty Bay had been going to the railhead at Tulira this season for transport to Napier, and this aspect was enlarged on to a press representative, and fur. Ihcr information given by Mr M. T. Hall, of Tiniroto. He stated that early in the season he inquired from tho Hallway Department with regard to the wool freight from the railhead at Tulira to Napier, and subsequently a commercial agent of the department was sent to the district. The result was that a large amount of wool was secured from the Tiniroto area for trails, port by rail, while in addition manures were secured as back loads. Mr Hall slated that he saved approximately 3s u bale by sending his wool to the railhead, while the cost of the manure transport was approximately the same os by boat from Auckland to Gisborne, and thence by lorry. 11 was indicated, also, that by next season the railhead may be at Waikarc, and per. haps serve a larger portion of the Pov. city Ray district. Mr Hall claimed that if tho district were able to use the railway with advantage while it was still a long distance away, the advantage with the line right through to Gisborne would be immense.
