Mr C. E. Macmillan, M.P., has received advice that the Hon, K., S. Williams, Minister of Public Works, and the Hon, A. D. McLeod, Minister ot Lands, will reach Te Puke at 9 a.m. on Tuesday next. Mr Williams will inspect the Kahuna River works after arrival, and Mr McLeod will receive a deputation in regard to the Waihi Swamp rating. In some parts of Holland, as well as in Argentina, wild clovejfls being planted because, where it flourishes, the malarial mosquito does not thrive. What the mosquito's particular dislike for the clover Held may be is not certain, but it is said that in the delta lands of Egypt the malarial mosquito is rare, although this area should provide plenty of breeding places for it. It is significant that clover fields ai’c to he found in the Nile delta in great numbers. In a general way. the ! cultivation of land clears away mosquitoes by drying up their breeding places, but it may be that clover is in sonic way unsuited to thorn when they arc past the larval stage. The malarial mosquito has gone from all but a very few places in England, where in the Middle Ages it was rife. Several local bodies, including the borough councils of Tauranga, Palmerston North, Hawera and Nelson, proposing to erect blocks of municipal buildings in which there should be shops for letting, have found that the law stands in the way; shops cannot be included in such buildings. Cuff, chairman of the Electric Committee, reported to the last meeting of the Te Puke Town Board that the, pressure of the electric supply had been very unsat-isfactory.—-It was decided that the Board forward a protest to the Tauranga Power Board and to the Public Works Department. Mr W. O. Kennedy, a member of the Fiako County Council, has been asked to contest the Thames seat at the forthcoming general elections in the interests of the Labour Party. Mr Kennedy has not yet given h,is decision.
