ANNUAL SOCIAL OF FIRE BRIGADE
EVENING AT FlttE STATION PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. Unco more the Fire Brigade members luivc held a very successful social. Fur Miint' years now the Brigade have combined the prize giving with a social tiiileiUiinmciit und the popularity of the station becomes more and more apparent. Oa Wednesday night last the social room, which hud been Special}' renovated by Brigadesmen, was crowded with friends and members, there being even more people present than on previous occasions. The chair was taken by Superintenl dent l'adlie until the urrival of Mr B. C. Bobbins who had been asked to take the office of Chairman,. Alter the drinking of the Royal Toasts, the following toasts were honoured:— ••United Fire Brigades Association," proposed by .Superintendent Pudlie, responded to by Mr Rawlson; "Kindred Association.-; (Sport)," propose t by Foreman Stewart, responded to by Mr Bigg-; "Taurangii Fire Board," proposed by Superintendent Padlie, responded to by Mr B. C. Bobbins; "Donors of Trophies," proposed by Mr 11. llartnett, responded to by Mr L. N orris ant Mr R. R. Handle; "Boys or the Old Brigade,'' proposed by Mr Randle,
responded to by Mr C. Crabbe and Mr J. Kelly; Tauranga Fire Brigade," proposed by Mr B. C. Bobbins, responded to by Superintendent Padlie; " -father' Armor," proposed by Superintendent Padlie, responded to by Mr Armer; -Honorary Member*,'' proposed by Mr 1.. Norris, responded to by Mr J. Kelly; "the Pianist," proposed by Mr B. C. Bobbins, responded to by Mr T. J. Kirk-Burnnand; "The Press," proposed by Deputy Snowden, responded to by fireman Kingdon and K. Gilford. A special toast proposed by fireman llartnelt to Mis Green, was honoured. Early in the year Mrs Green gave the Brigade, an evening garden party and the proU-edn greatly augmented die funds of the fire Brigade, Mr l\. l\Handle responded to this toasi. Pining the evening the following gentlemen assisted with the entertaining of the guests:—Messrs Day, Densem, Stevens, Scott, Pilko'thley, T. 3. Kirk-Burnnand, Liddell, C. Crabbe. Browning, MeNab, liUwurds and Towsey. The following is the prize list:— Superintendent Padlie's medal for Ist aggregate in the Medul run was won by Deputy-Superintendent . Snowden, who also won the Carter Shield. Mr D. Webb's medal for 2nd aggregate in Medal run was won by Fireman Uiekers. Mr McNamara's trophy, won by fireman A. Griffiths. Mr L. Morris's trophy, won by foreman Stewart. The Handle Cup, to be held for one year and a miniature cup to become the possession of the winner. Fireman 11. Bickers. Mr D. Webb's medal for runner-up in Handle Cup, fireman W. G. Padlie. Three-year service certificates were awarded to Past Fireman A. Fergusson, foreman Stewart and Fireman 11. Bickers. . A donation from the Brigade as an appreciation of valuable services rendered, was made to Timekeeper Ariner.
