TYPHOID IN THE NORTH
YOUNG NURSES INFECTED. Auckland, June 20 The Health ■Department has been notified of several cases of typhoid or enteric fever. in the North Auckland district. Five' members of a Maori family residing at Kaikuhc contracted the disease in mild form last week. They arc now in isolation at the Bay of Islands Hospital. In addition to these cases, six patients, including three young nurses, are suffering from the disease in the Whungarci Hospital. It is believed that the nurses caught the fever from a Maori removed to the insl.m lion, but who was not suspected of having the disease. The other victim.-; of the scourge are a child and a young woman. It is understood the form of the disease is very mild, with the exception of the case of one of the nurses. The health authorities are taking every precaution to prevent the spread of the disease, and Dr Turbot I assistant medical'officer of health wi-: despatched to Whangarei lust wee a to investigate- matters.
