A gale, which reached a velocity of seventy miles per hour, over a considerable area, accompanied by heavy ruin, caused considerable damage to property. Buildings were unroofed, hoardings and fences blown down, and trees uprooted. The Swan River has risen about .three feet. The ferry steamer services were suspended. Other rivers are also reported to be in Hood. The storm is described as one of the worst in the history of Fremantle, where steamers had to run out extra heavy mooring lines. Much minor damage was done. —(Aust. P.A. and Sun). RAIN IN OTHER STATES. Rec. June 20, 8.5. a.m. Sydney, June 10. Extreme cold in the western districts is causing heavy losses to sheep-breed-ers. Rec Juno 20. 10.10 a.m. Melbourne, June 20 A whirlwind struck Parbury’s sawmills at Warburton, lifting the whole root and beams, weighing eight tons, and depositing them fifty yards away. An employee was seriously injured. The ejectric light, and power station, which supplies the township, was badly damaged. A cyclone caused tremendous damage when it swept the Dungaree district near Ballarat. The cyclone was from 200 to 300 yards wide, and wrecked ah before it. There were many narrow escapes, hut only one person was injured.
