CROSS OF SACRIFICE

June 10 A message from Ypres states Rial Dyelt. unveiled the Cross of Sin iliee Memorial at Tyneol, erected in memory of 35,000 of the Empire dead who were killed in later actions at the Ypres salient many having no known graves. The nucleus of the cemetery is a few ha (lie graves round (he highest of several concrete German blockhouses, the centre of the heaviest lighting over which the War Cross is creeled. The wall .surrounding the graves contains a stone .inscribed: “Their Names J,Belli ■Evermore,’’ anil also panels containing the names of those killed. A small semicircular apse was consecrated (o the memory of the New Zealand dead. Those present included members of the Service League, the Burgomasters of Pnschenduele and Zonnebeke, and many inhabitants. Rev F. Molyncux blessed the cross and the buglers sounded the Last Post and Reveille.—(A. and N.Z.) London, June 19 The Tynccot cemetery’s known graves include live winners of the Victoria Cross, also. 1344 Australians and 50S New Zealanders. The apse is inscribed with the names of 1,179 New Zealanders who fell in the battle of'Broodseinde, the first buttle of Pascbendaelc. The whole of the graves are known only unto God.—(Sydney Sun).
