The Government has begun a supreme effort to enforce prohibition with a special appropriation of , 3,000,000 dollars for a campaign against organised tjootleggers. In this connection, nine hundred new agents have been added to the prohibition force. Mr Andrews, also has a general appropriation of 11.000.000 dollars 0 this year, for carrying out the pi’ovisions of the Volstead Act. Mr Andrews is going to Europe next week to negotiate .anti-smuggling treaties with Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy. Upon his return he will make an inspection of the whole of the border, and visit Alas-ka.—-(A. and N.Z.)
