BY-LAW CASES DEALT WITH, MANY CYCLISTS IN TROUBLE Mr W. G. K. Kuuick, S.M., presided at the sitting of the Magistrate s Court at Tauranga on Thursday last, when the following cases were dealt ! with : I/hauge of Address, diaries Vaughan was convicted and ordered to pay court costs for not notiI lying tlie military authorities of his change of address. He was also charged with failing to render personal service under Part VI of the Defence Act, j 1909, and was lined Cl with 7/- costs. | By-Law Bleaches. | The Borough Inspector, Mr Bam- [ berry, charged the following local resij denis with breaches of the borough by. ! laws:— For rilling a bicycle on the footpath. A, Jones was lined 10/- with costs 7/-. While riding bicycles without, lights after sunset, quite a number of respectable citizens ran into the Inspector, and each enriched the borough coffers to the extent of 10s and 7s costs. Dick Phelan. Thomas Jones, Gordon Wank David Tutchen, .Norman Ward, Peter Baiaieh, T. Williams. Thomas KirkBunmand. Ted Crowley, anil D. O'Halloran were the culprits. For riding a motor cycle without the required white light in front, Carlo Smith was fined £2, with) costs 12/.. E. Price was lined Cl and costs for driving a vehicle without sufficient lights. P. Coyne was fined £2, costs 22/-, for driving a motor ear without the required two white lights in front. For the same, offence A. Hanlie, 8. Pinker, and J. MiGninness were fined 10/-, costs, 7/-. For allowing cows to wander at large without being licensed, W. Conway, H. Rcushaw, and K. Johau.soa were each fitted 10/. and cost 7/-. H. Kelly was lined tlie Same amount for allowing his horse to wander in the Borough. For driving a motor-lorry without having a motor-driver’s license. W. Beresford was fined £Q and 7/- costs. P. Coyne was fined a similar amount for having no assigned number plate on his motor car. For allowing his house to be connected by a hose to a tap from tho public water supply, another local resident was fined £l, with costs 7/-. The Magistrate’s Warning. 'Die Magistrate notified his intention of increasing fines for by-law offences in future. Maintenance. Mary Blaker charged J. H. Blaker with failing to provide sufficient means for herself and her five children. He was ordered to pay the sum of £2 per week maintenance far his family. Civil Cases. Butler Napier had tho choice of paying Beale Bros £9/19/0, or 14 days imprisonment at Rotorara. Kelly Smith was ordered to pay tho same firm £39/9/7, in default three weeks in Rotorua gaol. G. T. Bartlcet was orclercd to pay J. 13. Broadhurst £24/4/Ok failing that, throe weeks in Rotorua, gaol. Pio Matahacre was ordered to pay A. Tudhopo £ll/1/0, or spend! 14 days bn prisonnnmt at Rotorua. C, Pearson was order'd! to pay W. Nichols £9/1/5. in default 14 days in Rotorua prison. 0. Kensington' was orclercd to pay D. Bergman and Co., £5/1/6, or spend 14 days in Rotorua piTsoln.. Tata was ordered to» pay Rnggs Bros.. £6/9/7. in default 14 days in Rotorua prison. M. Kohtt was ordered to pay the same firm £4/9 /4. or undergo the same term of imprisonment. W. Ngataii is also to pay Briggs Bros., £lO/9/0 forthwith, or be imprisoned for 1-1 days. H. A. Kelly was ordered to pay the Farmers’ Co-op. 'Auctioneering Co..
