MR LANG INTERVIEWED
ABOLITION OF STATE , LEGISLATURES. By Id.—Press Assoc.—Copyright. Sydney, April 17. | Mr Lang, interviewed, said he j hoped to see the time when the | whole of the State Parliaments and the Office of State Govern- , or would be abolished. He said the abolition of State legislatures could not be achieved piecemeal, but a move would have to be made conjointly by all' the States. Mr Lang said he was entirely in favour of the retention of the office of Governor-General, but ; thinks that the time has come i when another convention should i be held to define the powers of { the Commonwealth Parliament. ! As a substitute for the State Pai- | liament, Mr Lang’s idea is to give j extended pow-ers to local Govern- j ment authorities and to create I such bodies as a provisional coun- i cil. ‘ It is ridiculous,” he says, “to have so many parliaments to govern six million people.”—(A. and N.2.)
