Bay of Plenty Times . SATURDAY. OCT. 31st. 1925. POLITICAL HUMOUR.
An elector, who sees much humour in. the present tight lor the Tauranga scat . calk'd at the ‘ Times'" cilice yesterday, and asked if we had read Mr (’(Quitter s latest. We had to confess that we had m i read it, but. had heard about d. He said “Well, read this,” aud this is what we read: (Mr Coulter, introducing the Prime Minister at ie Aioha, Oct. 23.) “I have to steer dear of politics to-day, but 1 wish to say that ( lam an admirer, and that, when he (Air Coates) comes back at the head of the new Govern--1 ment, lam going to be one of his strongest supporters. That is how I feel about the Prime Minister. He is a jolly good sort, and everyone has to ad- ’ mit it.” Well, that seems to us to complete the bill. Air Coulter stands as a Nationalist, coquettes with Labour, claims to be supported by the Country Party, and now, clearly and definitely, attempts to climb aboard the Prime Alinister’s chariot. But it is just a little difficult ; to figure out, with our present | member, Mr Aiacmillan, firmly seated in the self-same chariot, exactly where Air Coulter finds a seat. Of course, since hearing Air Coulter, we thoroughly appreciate the fact that he will attempt t° clamber aboard any chariot in the hope that there may be some stray votes lying about, but when we come to compare this outburst of fulsome adoration for the Prime Aliuister at To Aroha, with his very emphatic declaration in the town hall at Tauranga on October 13; it is just a bit puzzling whether to take Mr Coulter seriously or regard his candidature as the joke of the election. Here is his Tauranga declaration: “I say emphatically that I would support, any no-confidence motion moved against the Reform Government, I believe the time has arrived when the Reform Government has got to go. It is going all right. The question to be decided is not whether the. Nationalists will support Labour to put Ejeform out, bub whether the present Reform Party will support either Labour or the National Party.” But then, we must remember, Air Coates is the head of the Reform Government. We will really have to appeal to Air Tuck to get us out of this maze. “I am going I to be one of his strongest supporters,” says Air Coulter at Te Aroha. “I say emphatically that I would support any no-confidence motion moved against the Reform Government,” says Air Coulter at Tauranga. This “live-wire Coulter” of Air Tuck’s will most surely consume himself if he gets these positives and negatives dangling so dangerously close to one another.
