The one above the water tank will take about 800 or 1000 more trees, especially shelter trees round the outside. The trees already there, karakas and palms, are very slow growing, without 1 some shelter from the wind. There is room for a lot of trees in the area, round the shelter shed, around and between the present; karakas- I read in the paper that the Harbour Board are getting trees ami men to plant them from the' nurseries at Rotorua. Could not yon arrange to. get a quantity of trees and get the same men to plant them, as this is the best time of The year to get the trees in- I understand the landscape gardener who was Imre arranged where to plant different varieties ef trees, but it appears to me that the* main thing is breakwind of shelter trees. A plantation near the site of Colonel Whitmore's camp would be a. great benefit to pieknickers, as there is very little firewood or shelter there. I made an offer last year to procure trees and help to plant them if tlfo Board would got the holes dug, but nothing was done in the matter. A small gate is wanted in the fence between the' road and the shelter shed *. the gateway is therm Trusting that you will be able to* put these works in hand.” It was pointed our that when the Board met its present liabilities there would be little, if any, money in hand. The Chairman said he would like to see a committee. appointed from the rosilents of Mount Maunganui, to co-operate with the Board in the carrying out of the works on the domain.
