NOTES. The place-getters in the New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase last year were Oakleigh (12.0) Master Peter (9.2), and First Line (10.9), and they are engaged m the forthcoming contest. It is a popular opinion that had Maste Peter jumped the two conclmUng obstacles properly m last yeai s contest he would have reversed places with Oakleigh. It wdl be interesting to note whether Master Peter improves on his performance in last year's contest when he comes to cope with the opposition in the Grand National field a .second time.

A cablegram received from Melbourne last week announcing the fourtli successive victory registered across country by the New Zealand gelding Chrysostom did not stare the weight he carried. Papers now tc hand show that the son of Demosthenes ruled second topweight with IM3. Despite the fact of Chrysostom having incurred the maximum 101 b penalty for the V.R.C. Grand National Steeplechase, the New Zealand gelding is in good favour for the big crosscountry event set down for decision at Flemington on July 12. Red Wink is at present under offer to an Australian buyer. The American-bred pacing mare Trix Pointer, who carried Mr W. H. Norton's colours with conspicuous success over a lengthy period, has run her last race, and she is to commence stud life next season, Trix Pointer won over all distances having a mile record of 2min 9 2-5 secs, and a two mile record of 4min 30sec, and her ’ successes included the New Zealand Trotting Cup and the Free for All. She* raced for eight seasons, during which she won <£7431 in stakes. It is understood that the southern horseman, George Feilding, has decided to abandon riding and will in future' confine his attention to training. He is located at Wingatui, where he has the jumper Fort Regal under his care. The Dunedin sportsman, Mr L. C. Hazlett, has repurchased the portion of the Salisbury Estate, in North Taieri, on which he had his' private training tracks, schooling grounds and stud- ’ f The Taranaki J-Amy Ciuo recently resoUod, in smb- ■•■ r field:- tffe TVrnaM during the past season or two, -to go on with the classic event, and it is pleasing to no|e that eighty-twoi entries have been received for the Eighteenth Taranaki Stakes, 1925. Amongst them are numerous rising-2-year-olds, & of the others notable nominations *are Glentruin, Gaillard. Motley, Rational, Razzle Dazzle, Nigger Minstrel and Lady Bentinck.
