Rec July 8, 8.5 a.m. Sydney, July 7 Mr Bowden conferred with the Directors of Shipbuilding and the Chairman of the Commonwealth Shipping Board in regard to the construction of one or two new cruisers at Cockatoo. The conference was held in camera. Melbourne, July 8 As an alternative to building, one cruiser at Cockatoo- the Government is considering a proposal to build both cruisers in England' and with money saved to proceed with the construction of a great naval floating clock at Cockatoo., making Australia the potential base fur the capital ships of the British Navy in war time. It is considered likely that New Zealand would co-operate l in the construction ,of the dock and also contribute a share of the cost.
