A communication was read at yesterday’s meeting of the Tamanga Hospital Board from the DirectorGeneral of Health, intimating that the Minister' of Finance has ruled that fer the current year seven percent interest is to be charged on levies remaining unpaid after fourteen da vs from due date.

Langguth, Whare--paina Sawmill, asking the Council tv consider refunding £3, license for me tor truck, as he was carting benzine for the Rotorua Borough Ccnmcil to assist, them in connection with 'the railway strike.- The I matter was referred to the borough in specter, who* reported to* the Council on Wednesday night that the license* was issued during the strike and as it was a case of oblig|mg the Rotorua Borough Council j he recommended that the fee paid | for license 1 be refunded.—The Council agreed to the recommendation made by the inspector. A •communication was read at the meeting cf the Hospital Board yesterday from the Department cf Health, notifying the payment of £I,OOO advance: on account cf subsidy for, the year 1924.25.
A accident, which was net without its humourous aspects tb the onlookers, occurred at Auckland, as the cargo* steamer was berthing at the Ncrtihcote vehicular landing. During an exceptionally heavy downpour, a young, man attempted to pass an empty perambulator from the vessel tb a male companion on the wharf. He overbalanced, however, and, with his burden, fell over the side of the* Sparrowhawk into th§. harbour. The man struck cut! and swam to the wharf, and was little the worse for. his immersion. The perambulator was net recovered.
At the meeting cf the Tauranga Hospital Board yesterday a letter was read front the Secretary of the Bav cf Plenty- Hospital Board, Whakatanc, stating that the question cf an old people’s heme, had been discussed and it was decided that representatives cf the Bay cf Plenty Board’ would meet representatives cf the Tauranga Board at Matata, at a date convenient to the latter.—The Board appointed the Chairman, and Messrs King and ScantPbuiv, as delegate? to meet the Whakatanc Beard at a date to be arranged.

Messrs J. C. Adams and W. T. Teasey, J.IVs. presided at a sitting of the court yesterday, when Frederick Wills, Henry J. Newman, and a first offender wire charged with being rogues and vagabonds, having been” found at' night sleeping in a sited outside tire borough. The three: defendants pleaded guilty. Wills and Newman were sentenced to seven da vs imprisonment, and the other offender was. convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon in six months. Newman was also prohibited. Mr R. King referred, at 1 yesterday's meeting of the Hospital Board, to* the question of holding a ceremony in connection with the laying of the foundation stone off the To Puke maternity hospital, and stated that it had been decided by the {'astern members of the Beard that the proposed ceremony be- deferred till the- opening of the new building. The Borough Council on Wednesday night appointed Or Clinkarcl to represent it on the Beautifying and Horticultural Society.
At the meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday a communication was read from the Valuation Department, Auckland. forwarding figures giving the capital values as at March- 31, 1923, as follows: Taurnnga County.' .£1,695,357 ; Te Puke Town District, £256,603 : Tanranga Town, £704,942. Total £2,656. 952.
