May was the third imh.sually wet month in succession this year, and the mean temperature was approximately one. and a half degrees above the May average. High winds to gales prevailed on three occasions, notably on the 20th.. when a fierce gale raged for a few hours, about midnight. Two slight earth tremors occurred on the morning of the sth. The barometer was very variable at times, the standard barometer recording as low ah 20.03 on the 17th alter a. fall of approximately an inch in -IS hours, and the recovery was almost as rapid ; nevertheless tho period of four days was only marked by a fall of 1.30iu. of rain spread over throe out of these days, and the wind only rose to half a gale for a lew bourn on tho Kith. Mr K. L. Gossett furnished the following report for his station at the Falls, 15 mile sdistant:—This slay lias been the wettest mouth during my nine years observation here, the previous record month's; rainfall being 19.35in5, in Junc 1920, whereas May this year has totalled 20.79Jn5. Rain fell, with wiuci from NE., to XNE., most of the time from afternoon of the 24thj to 1 P-in. of the 27th. The pool below the Falls commenced to rise early on the 25th and reached a maximum of 8i feet above normal at 1 p.m, on the 27th. During this storm great quantities of mud and sticks came down, but the flood did not quite reach the height of the record of Jiine oth., 1920, when 11J inches fell in 20 hours. There was distant lightning on the 2nd and 4th. Rainfall.
