TAURANGA TO AUCKLAND
AN EXCELLENT PASSENGER
SERVICE
It is probably no exaggeration to say that- the Matangi, the latest! addition to the Northern S-.S. Company's fleet, and now in service between Auckland and Tanrauga, is one of the finest, if not the finest, passenger boat in the New Zealand coastal trade. Her general appomtmerits have already been ‘escribed in this paper, so- that it is unnecessary to again enlarge upon them, but it does not seem to be generally realised how exceptionally wcdl the requiremuts of the passenger traffic to and from Tauranga are being met by a boat like the Mntangi, and with a, three-days-a-week services Everyone who' has travelled by hsr on this run, without exception, speak in the 1 most glowing term a of the steamer’s appointments, and sea-go-ing qualities. By means of lire Matangi, a determined effort is being made to- create a passenger hr flic to Auckland through 'tauranga firm the whole of the Bast Coast disbieb a§ far down as Gisborne, and existing arrangements enable the journey to be mad© from Auckland to Gisborne, or vice versa : n twenty-f mv hours, a. most comm aim 1 and commendable arrangement. The importance of such a -ervice to* Tauranga cannot be over-estimated, and it is certainly to be hoped that the service will receive such support both from local residents and further afield, as will ensure the retention cf this fin© boat on the run, and a- continuance of die tri-weekly service.
