COUNCIL INCIDENT
HOW THINGS HAPPEN IN NAPIER (Per Press Association). Napier, Sept. 14 An unusual incident occurred at the Borough Council meeting last evening. In the course of a discussion councillor L. W* Fowler, addressing the Mayor, Mr Maddison, said “I am disgusted at your lack ot justice.” The matter under review was a committee recommendation that the application of the hotels for a reduction of electric light charges be not granted. Cr Fowler refused to withdraw his remark, and the council decided to suspend him for the reminder of the meeting. He declined to leave the chamber, and the Mayor then sent for a constable, who, on arrival, said, “ Come on councillor Fowler, do the correct thing.” Cr. Fowler said, “ I am not going,” and then, turning to the Mayor, said “if you order me to be arrested.’’ The constable said “ you wont be arrested, but will be put out.” The constable then laid hands on Cr. Fowler, who allowed himself to be quietly conducted from the Chamber.
