ANZAC DAY IN SYDNEY

Sydney, April 24.. There has been considerable opposition and press correspondence against declaring Auzac Day a public holiday, on the grounds that the spirit of solemn observance intended will be largely lost sight of, ami the commemoration would prove futile. One point strongly urged is that through the children having a holiday the opportunity would be lost for teachers and public men to address them, and explaiif the mean ing of the observance as on previous occasions. The failure of the Government to close the hotels is adversely criticised. The Licensed Victuallers’ Association, 'Tiowevcr, has recommended that hotels eloso voluntarily from T 0.30 to; one o’clock. ;
