UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT
Three months ago Mr R. W. Cuthbert took over, the Masonic Hotel, and immediately entered into negotiations for the com. plete renovation of the interior of the building- This work has now been completed ■ and every apartment in the house, and also the passages, have' been re« scrimmed and re-papered, the work of renovation having been carried out in a very tasteful and efficient manner by Messrs R. W. Cuthbert (junior) and J. Main. The house now bears a thoroughly up-to-date appearance, and a notable change for the belter for the , guests is the setting apart of the main room upstairs as a sitting room. Prior to coming to Tauranga Mr Cuthbert was engaged in the hotel-keeping business at Mangawhare, Northern Wairoa, where he conducted the Commercial Hotel for some years. He then look over the, Terminus Hotel at Helensyille, the largest licensed house in that, district. After disposing of his interests in the latter house he visited Tauranga and was so with the prospects that he puf chased the lease and the frefi' hold of the Masonic and also the valuable Willow Street frontage at the back of the hotel, on which he contemplates carrying out building improvement* when the time is opportune. », is Mr Cuthhert’s aim to maketne Masonic a popular house, and tne bar, dining room, and accomiM* ticn departments are all under separate and capable nu rnent.
