BOWLING

The local bowlers who have been taking part in the tournament .at Whakatane for the Francis Cup returned last night. Torrance’s teanr (Phillips, Washer,Hammond, Torrance (s)) had six wins and one loss in the section, winning the section outright. Palmer (Te Puke) and Manson (Rotorua) tied in their section, Manson winning the semi-final, but Torrance again proved equal to the occ'asion and brought the Cup to Tauranga for the third year in succession.. Prior to the fixing of an annual tournament for this Cup any Club could challenge the hold ers by giving a fortnight’s notice. Many games were therefore played for the Cup before _ the annual tournament was decided upon. Mr lorrance has now played forty games for the Cup and won it on thirty-six occasions.
