His'Worship the Mayor, Mr B Dive, will deliver the final address of his campaign to-night in the Town Hall, commencing at eight o’clock. Candidates for the Borough Council are invited by Mr Dive to express their views at this meeting.

. All interested in forming a ladies’ town hockey team are to meet at 7.30 this, evening at Messrs Carter and Go’s, premises Mr C. E. Macmillan, one of the candidates for the mayoralty, will address the electors from the balcony of the Star Hotel at 7.30 this evening, prior to Mr Dive’s meeting.

j About six hundred natives and ( a number of Europeans gathered at Opureora, Matakana Island, on Sunday last on the oc:asion of the unveiling of a monument to three deceased natives Mesdames Tamahou Palmer, T. Kuka and Motutere. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Hoiierhoek, and Maoris were present from as far as Katikati on the west to Papamoa on the east. The visitors were entertained in characteristic Maori fashion. The local municipal polls to morrow should be a record. Major Wykeham Jones, oi South Wales, who has visited New Zealand on many occasions, is spending a few days in lauranga and is staying at the Commercial Hotel. This is his first visit to Tauranga. He says it is a chanring spot, but he regrets that the railway is to go along the front of the town. Several good catches of hapuku have made during the past few days. Mr A. Reid and party landed 29 hapuku, 7 trumpeters, and 1 moki, while Mr Bert O’Neill's party secured 10 hapuku The trumpeter weighed up to 20 lb and the largest hapuku Bolb. Messrs B.Dive and C. C. Norris, J.P’s. presided at a sitting of the Court on Saturday, when a first offender, a stranger to the town, was charged with drunkenness, and was convicted and discharged. Henry Girling Arnold was arraigned for drunkenness and was convicted and discharged. Arnold was also charged with having committed an indecent act on the wharf and was further charged with using obscene language. He was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment on each charge, both sentences to be cumulative.

Captain Gilbert Main N.Z.C. of Rotorua, is spending a holiday in Tauranga and is staying at the Commercial Hotel. He served in the Maori war and afterwards in various capacities with Government Departments, his military and civil service totalling fortyseven years. Captain Mair is a recognised authority on Maori matters and has furnished considerable information in connection with the “History of the Maori War.” a book whhh is being written by Mr James Cowan. It is about five years since Major Mair visited Tauranga and be says he notices signs of progress on all sides. He is accompanied by his daughter Mrs Vane (wife of Captain Ralph F. Vane, of Wooleigh House, Bovey Tracey, Durham. England) who is on a holiday visit to New- Zealand. The annual meeting of the local Repatriation Committee will be held this evening in the. Borough Council Chambers at /.JO.

All Junior footballers who played in last .Saturday’s match are requested to attend a meeting at the Northern Company’s office at 7.30 to-morrow evening.

The Ngapuhi is only making two trips this week between Auckland and Tauranga. She arrives on Thursday morning and sails at the usual hour in the evening. She is due again on Saturday morning.

It was suggested by a number of townsmen >yesterday that' a suitable uniform would add to the appearance of the Band, and during the day the sum of eight guineas was promised nucleus for a uniform fund. T te Band will assemble at the Town Hall at 7,30 to-morrow evening and will play selections while the crowd is awaiting the election results. During the evening a collection will be taken up w aid of the uniform fund.
