The Tauranga Athletic Club will hold a genSral meeting in Mr D. Webb’s shop, Hamilton Street, at 8.10 this evening, Pastor E! R. Weston, who is shortly leaving for Dunedin, preaches his farewell sermon at the Baptist Tabernacle to-morrow evening. Two clearing sales will be held by Messrs H. H. McCarthy and Co. next week. On Tuesday at Bethlehem the firm will sell on account of Mr W. Carleton, dairy cows, harness, horse, gig, poultry, and plant and farm implements. On Wednesday Mr Ibbetson’s oak furniture and effects will be submitted to auction on the premises, Willow Street. The Prime Minister, Hon, VV. F. Massey, announces that he has received a communication indicating a considerable,reduction in the freight rate on cheese- The rate is reduced to I id, plus 10 per cent, the reduction to be applicable to the first shipment of new season’s cheese as from November 1 last and subsequent shipments. Mr Massey said this meant a saving to the cheese producers of the Dominion of not less than £213,000 on freight, based on the last year’s export.
