TO-DAY’S PLAY

This morning broke gloriously fine and the greens were playing keener. Present indications give promise of continued fine to the close of the tournament tomorrow. As is usually the case the play in the seventh round provided some surprises. In section A Wilson (Hamilton' went down to Howell (Carlton). On the 17th head they were 15 all. TRe next went to Wilson for I and then Howell secured a 3 and a I, leaving him 3 up and a head to go,, Wilson got 2 on the last head Howell saving the game with his last bowl. Watson (Matamata) who happens not to have won a game, kept Crowley busy throughout. He was only Tdown on the 16th head Crowley got w«ll ahead on “.the next three heads, and won the' game 20-15, Watson having secured 4on the 20th head. Secombe (Otorohonga) tied with Palmer (Te Puke) 23 all on \ the 21st head, the extra head going to Palmer for one.l ;In Section C Lewis (Cambridge) and Rimmer (Marama) played a' very close game. Rimmer was 2 up on the 18th head, but Lewis scored I, 2, I, and secured the game with a margin of 2. Pilkington (Hamilton) scored an easy win from Fookes (Carlton) 20-2 on the 12th head. Fookes then threw in the towel. The card reads somewhat differently, but bears evidence of manipulation. In Section BRowe , secured another win, this time from Eure (Whakatane) who has not yet made a start. Snelgrove, skipping the Ponsouby team, secured an easy win against Higgott (Whitiora) 26 17. Clemson, Munro, Phillips and Snelgrove are skipping this team in turn, with varying results. Tanner (Epsom) just lost to Christianson (Waiuku). He wanted 4 to be on the last head,'but could only manage 3. Hardie Neil,(Auckland) had liis game with 'Fraser Smith (Frankton) in doubt to the last head. lie was 2 down on the 18th, but the remaining three heads gave him five and the , game. Torrance’s win from Gould (Ngaruawahia) was in doubt to the 20th head. On the ißlh head Torrance was then I dpwn 22-21-On the 19th head Gould was lying 2 but Torrance trailed the jack for 4. The next head found Tauranga lying when the skips went down- Gould failed with both his and Torrance improved the score to 7 and won comfort ably.
